The corona crisis forced us to isolate ourselves at home, which made us think more deeply about what culture should be.

Art, music, literature, movies, etc. have helped us in adversity to be inherently stronger, more tolerant of loneliness, and overcome forced isolation. Also, we should have been able to experience an affinity with unknown people who lived in other times and places that were not here, as good as or even worse than us.

In general, culture is a luxury and is not always considered an absolute necessity in life.

During this pandemic, culture is the sector most ignored by public institutions, and the debate about the future of culture has been neglected. t is understood that "culture, like education, is the fruit of spiritual freedom and is essential for a country to prosper in nature."

However, the question is how the administration will be involved in it.

So far, there has been the fact that culture has been used as a means of indoctrination of identity and ideology and of propaganda to strengthen national power, as Nazi Germany did during World War II. In addition, there were "cultural people" and "intellectuals" who had to accept it unwillingly.

In addition to strict intellectuality, the critical spirit and freedom of judgment cannot be fully exerted without the education of sensibilities nurtured by familiarity with art works. It can also be said that it is an independent free citizen.

To that end, it is important for us to think for ourselves, not only by common sense and prejudice, but also by "authority, which is a product of the administration."

Einstein said, "Science is great. If you don't need to make a living from it."

The pure pursuit of science and art is the utmost joy. However, when financial problems intervene in pursuit of it, it is inevitably accompanied by personal self-interest. If "pure science and art" depends on and is constrained by other factors, "critical spirit and freedom of judgment" will be invalidated. Moreover, it will allow the birth of science and art that are devastating and far from ethics, just as the supposedly pure "discovery of nuclear chain reactions" created the atomic bomb.

We must be sensitive to social trends, but that will not be to comply with social orientations.

今回のコロナ危機によって自宅への隔離を余儀なくさせられたおかげで、私たちは今まで以上に深く文化のあり方について考えさせられた。

アート、音楽、文学、映画などは、逆境にある私たちを本質的に強くし、孤独をより耐えられさせ、強制的な孤立を克服するのを助けてくれた。

また、ここにはいない他の時期や場所に住んでいた、私たちと同等な、あるいはもっと悲惨な未知の人々との親和性を私たちは経験出来たはずだ。

一般的に、文化とは、贅沢であって、必ずしも生活に絶対必要とは思われていない。

今回のパンデミックの最中、文化は公的機関によって最も無視されているセクターであり、文化の未来についての議論はおざなりにされていることからも伺える。

「文化は教育と同様に、精神の自由の結実であり、国が本質的に繁栄していくには不可欠である。」ことは了解される。

しかし、それにどう行政が関わってくるかが問題になる。

これまでに、第二次世界大戦中にナチス・ドイツがやったように、文化がアイデンティティやイデオロギーの教化と、国力強化プロパガンダの手段として使われてきた事実があった。

またそれに嫌々でも迎合しなければならなかった「文化関係者」「知識人」がいた。

厳格な知的さに加えて、アート作品に親しむことで育まれる感性の教育なしでは、批判的な精神と判断の自由を十分に発揮することはできない。またそれこそが独立した自由市民と言える。

それには常識や先入観だけでなく「行政の産物である権威」にもとらわれることなく、私たち自身の頭で考えることが大切だろう。

アインシュタインは「科学はすばらしいものだ。もしそれによって生活の糧を得る必要がないのなら。」と言った。

科学やアートの純粋な追求は至高の喜びだ。しかしそれを追求する為に金銭問題が介入すると、必然的に個人的私利私欲が付随する。

「純粋な科学やアート」が、その他の要因に、微塵でも依存し、またそれに制約を受ければ、「批判的な精神と判断の自由」が無効になってしまう。

さらには、純粋であった筈の「核連鎖反応の発見」が原子爆弾を作ってしまったように、破滅的で、倫理から大きく逸脱した、科学や芸術の誕生を許してしまうだろう。

私たちは社会の動向に敏感でなければならないが、それは社会の志向に迎合することではないだろう。
