"Adam and Eve" Albrecht Dürer
Every time I look at an apple, it reminds me of that story:
Adam and Eve, seduced by the devil, eat the forbidden fruit and are exiled from paradise by the wrath of God.
Since then, they are no longer immortal. They have to live with original sin and work for the rest of their lives.
"What a pity! if they had not eaten that damn fruit at that time, they would be happy forever in paradise."
Is that so?
If one is perfect as an angel that never dies, he would feel neither sadness nor pain, but at the same time can feel neither joy nor happiness.
We can feel the misery of the broken heart, the joy of true love, the pain of childbirth, the happiness of raising a child, the sadness of farewell, and etc
Because of the anxiety and fear of inevitable death, we can live our life fully.
The interest, care and love towards others and t
oward us make us feel clearly that we are alive. And for the same reason we can be attentive to the time to be lost.
If we were indifferent and insensitive to everything, and would never die, how could we feel the importance of time?
The forbidden fruit may be a metaphor for wisdom, and in obtaining wisdom, Adam and Eve became human beings for the first time, and thanks to that now we are here. Let's keep eating apples today!
